The goal of the universe

Goethe:  "If the health of a human being is complete, if he feels himself to be a great and comely, a dignified and estimable totality, if his harmonious well-being renders him purely and freely delighted, then the universe, if it were able to have a sense of its own self, would rejoice at having attained its goal and would marvel at the accomplishment of its labors. For what would be served by all that effort of suns and planets and moons, of stars and milky ways, of comets and nebulae, of worlds created and still coming into being, if in the end a joyous human being were not to delight in his own existence?"
